While Washington has legalized the possession of small amounts of Marijuana for personal use, possession of more than 1 ounce (28 grams) is still a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both. Possession of more than 40 grams of marijuana is a felony that can result in 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Possession of other controlled substances is a either a class B or C felony.
